Awe

Awe is a higher dimensional word. Energetically it lifts us up, beyond the usual reality of the third dimension that witnesses experience as linear, time-constrained and polarized. Awe on the other hand, is expansive, beyond this limited perspective and opens up channels in our being that are truly inspiring, imaginative and much larger than ourselves.

Now science has gotten into the picture with some fascinating results. As usual they are finally validating what has already been known throughout history as transcendental experiences. What is fascinating about this study is that these scientists are pointing to the benefits not only personally but collectively as well.  They consider it one of the fastest and most powerful methods for personal change.

Knowing Better, Choice and Training the Mind

In my first blog, I quoted Maya Anjelou: When I know better, I do better. Well, that is a tall order. Just because we know better, does not mean that we do better!! It’s more like, I know better, and now I am at choice to do better. And that choice makes all the difference.

In many instances, we do know better and we do not choose differently. Now, I’m not talking about the fact that sometimes we have the awareness and are simply not ready to do something differently. Or, the habitual patterns are so deep, that even though there is awareness and a recognition of choice, the habits take precedent to the wisdom. In these situations, deep compassion is the balm.

Self Love/Self Hatred

When we hear the words “self-hatred”, the initial tendency is to cringe.  I don’t hate myself is often the first knee-jerk reaction….meaning I don’t really detest, dislike, even “loath” myself.   For others though, there is a sigh of relief to have named what has not been named and yet has been carried throughout most of life.  In my professional career, this is the one constant that I have seen over and over again.

I do not see the opposite of self-hatred to be self-love.  They are not polar opposites.  They arise from the same source. A rich river of  love, a river of love to and for ourselves and to and for others, effortlessly, emanates from our connection to Source, to all of Creation.  This love is endless.  When the connection to Source is severed in any way, then self-hatred slowly emerges and begins to permeate our being.  It surrounds us like a bubble, often an invisible bubble, of which we are mostly totally unaware.
